Motril is situated just off the N-340 70km south
of Granada. It sits at the foot of the Lujar
mountain range and is considered the capital
of Granada’s Costa Tropical. As with other
towns along this stretch of the Spanish coastline
it enjoys a mild, subtropical climate. This is
due to the geographical location with Africa
to the south and the high peaks of the Sierra
Nevada mountain range providing protection from
the cooler winds blowing in from northern Europe.
Motril is a vibrant, modern town with a population
exceeding 50,000. The economy is supported by
a large commercial port as well as locally cultivated
produce and it’s growing popularity not
only as a tourist destination but a popular place
for those seeking permanent residence.
Motril has many historical monuments which sit
side by side with modern buildings housing a
wealth of shops, restaurants and hotels. For
culture lovers there are various fiestas that
take place throughout the year as well as regular
artistic events.
For those seeking sun, sea and sand there are
many beaches that are easily accessed from Motril
and for water sports enthusiasts there are ample
opportunities for enjoying wind surfing, sailing
and scuba diving.
